Today, four of us headed out to Edstaston to cut back some of the overgrowth on the Shropshire Way. However, we didn’t get far before hitting the infamous flooded field at Oaklands.
We hopped back in the car and went over to Abbeygreen to see if we could find a way around. The Shropshire Way Association website suggests a road diversion, but honestly, where is the fun in that? So we tried cutting across a few fields instead, using routes we haven’t used very often, clearing around stiles as we went. In the end, we gave up — it would need a lot of clearing and some new stiles to make it work properly.
The route is just about passable if you’re happy to commando crawl under a fallen tree and clamber over stiles with no steps (and wrapped in barbed wire, just to keep things exciting!).
